As
you can see from the above slideshow, the mural began to
come to life, brushstroke by brushstroke. As the end of
May approached, the mural neared completion. In the pic
below the panels are standing side by side so that minor
adjustments to positioning and carry-over of design could
be finalized.
On
June 23 all the members of the Guild were invited to a vernissage
and members who had worked on the project signed their names
to the completed mural before the varnishing took place.
Thursday, July
9, 2009 Mayor John W. Meaney and the members of Council
invited the MADP painters and other guests to a reception
at the municipal library to view the completed mural in
the children's section before it was stored, awaiting completion
of the library renovations before it was officially installed.
At the ceremony, Mayor Meaney stated, "This colossal
undertaking has come to fruition in a little over a year
and has been, without a doubt, a labor of love. It is a
gift to Kirkland residents that will be cherished by young
and old alike, hopefully for many generations to come."
Renovations to
the library were completed in the fall of 2010. The windows
on top were eliminated to protect the mural colours and
special lights were installed. The Official Open House was
held on October 23rd, 2010 all day. Our mural is now in
the Children's Section of the Kirkland library for all to
see and enjoy. Below is a 'stitched together' set of pictures
one of our members took, to show the entire mural installed.
