The Treasure Box
Paint-In after the April 2008 meeting was the promised social
event of the season. More than 20 members stayed to paint shoe
boxes, enjoy the wine and cheese, and socialize with other members.
Everyone seemed to have a great afternoon. In addition to those
boxes that are now well under way, June happily carried home 6
boxes that members had completed at home.
Probably happiest
of all are the children at the Shriners Hospital who are receiving
these boxes. They are in hospital for long periods of time, and
the treasure boxes they receive are welcome little containers
made especially for them in which they can store their little
treasures. There are 40 beds at the Montreal Shriners Hospital,
which specializes in orthopaedic surgery, so it is no small task
keeping up with the need for additional boxes for the patients
who range from 1 to 17 years. The boxes that left with June plus
the ones that many of us have started at this paint-in will put
smiles on many faces in the near future.
